we've been experimenting with making our own household cleaners and i thought i'd share a few of our go-tos. because essential oils are what started this DIY frenzy, i use them in all of my cleaners so they're included in these recipes. in most cases they're totally optional and mostly are just there to cover up the vinegar and alcohol smell because no one wants their house smelling like that all the time, am i right? right.
1. all purpose spray
fill a spray bottle with 1 capful of thieves cleaner, a splash of vinegar and fill the rest with distilled water. i like to add a few drops of any citrus essential oils as well (orange, lemon, citrus fresh, grapefruit)
2. wood polish
fill an 8oz spray bottle with 1/4 cup olive oil, 1/4 cup vinegar and 10 drops of essential oils. we use orange and cedarwood.
3. glass cleaner
fill a spray bottle with 2 cups water, 2tbsp vinegar and 10 drops of lemon essential oil.
4. toilet bowl cleaner
baking soda. shake a little in, let sit for a few minutes, scrub and flush.
5. granite cleaner
fill a spray bottle with 1/4 cup rubbing alcohol, a few drops of castile soap or dish soap, 20-30 drops of essential oil (we use bergamot here) and fill the rest up with water.
in each of these cleaners, it's really important to SHAKE the bottle before you spray. especially with the wood polish as the ingredients tend to separate if they've been sitting for a while because, you know: science. i like to put on some early 2000s pop hits and dance around the house while cleaning so there's a lot of shaking going on anyway.
i use young living essential oils and if you don't have any, you can grab yourself some HERE.
